Abbey Architectural Nears Completion of Third Phase of Window Replacements at Finham Park School, Coventry.

Project Overview:
Abbey Architectural successfully secured the competitive tender for the Finham Park Multi Academy Trust to replace existing PVCu windows in a school’s CLASP-type building with new powder-coated aluminium windows. The project was divided into several phases, extending into 2024. Abbey Architectural has already completed two phases and is nearing the completion of the third phase, valued at £244,000.

Client Requirements:
Abbey Architectural adapted the standard Kawneer window system to accommodate the unique structure of the CLASP school building. This included modifying the surround frame design by incorporating additional adaptor sections and larger perimeter frames to align with the existing structure and cladding.

The in-house design team provided detailed drawings for client review and approval before proceeding with manufacture. The windows, finished in Grey RAL 7016, utilized the Kawneer Series AA720 system with top-hung opening vents mounted on projection friction stays. Linked folding openers were included to enhance locking robustness. High-level opening vents were equipped with grey Teleflex remote winding operators for convenient operation, and grey antisun glazing was applied on the south and west elevations to reduce solar gain.

The replacement work, covering both ground and first floors, was carried out during term time. Abbey Architectural coordinated closely with the school to create a detailed installation program that minimized disruption to classes. All personnel involved had undergone enhanced DBS checks. Comprehensive risk assessments and method statements were submitted and followed to ensure safety throughout the project.

  • Windows: Kawneer Architectural Aluminium Systems Series AA720HI, a 3-chambered window system made from high-quality aluminium alloys (EN AW 6060 T66 and 6063 T6 standards). This system features a multi-chamber thermal break core and moulded corner glazing gaskets, achieving a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K.
